Municipal Buildings

The Municipal Buildings on Calverley Street, designed by George Corson,  were opened in 1878 to house the Central Library and the Art Gallery. From 1934–1966 it was also the headquarters of Leeds City Police. Beyond are the School Board Offices, described both as ‘one of the finest buildings in the country’ and  a ‘wanton extravagance’.
