Francis Place’s Prospect of 1715. This was drawn from the east side of the town and Thoresby records going with Place to draw the prospect. The Parish Church is in the centre with St John’s in the background. On the left hand side of the river you can see a lock of the recently opened Aire and Calder Navigation.
Over more than a century, the Society has built up a number of special collections, notably its archive, map and image collections, which have recently been re-catalogued to make them more accessible. These collections are housed in the Society’s library, based at the Leeds Library, 18 Commercial Street, Leeds LS1 6AL.
